Legal notice and privacy
Who publishes this site, and what becomes of the information you entrust to us.
Publisher
This site is published in a personal capacity by Jacques et Patricia Selle, owners of La Maison de la Cloche at Nanteuil-en-Vallée, in the Charente, who are also responsible for its content.

- in writing, through the contact form.
The address of the cottage is not a postal address and the post is not collected there: please use one of the two means above.

Intellectual property
The text and the photographs of the house and its grounds belong to its owners. Reproducing them, even in part, requires prior agreement.
The photographs of places to visit nearby are not ours: they are used under Creative Commons licences, and each carries its photographer’s name and a link to its licence, on the page The Argentor valley and around.
Personal data
This site has no accounts, no customer area and no visitor database. What follows is the whole of what it handles.
The contact form
When you write through the form, we receive by email your name, your email address, your telephone number if you gave one, the dates you have in mind and your message.
This is used solely to reply to you. It is not sold, not passed to anyone else, and not added to any mailing list. It is stored nowhere on this site: it passes through the server for as long as it takes to compose the message, then is forgotten. All that remains is the copy that arrives in our mailbox, which we keep for as long as we are corresponding with you.
Website statistics
With your agreement — and only with it — this site uses Google Analytics to find out how many people visit and which pages interest them. The script is loaded only after you accept; if you decline, nothing is set and the site works identically.
This involves transferring data to Google, whose servers may sit outside the European Union. We have switched off advertising matching and cross-device tracking.
Your choice is kept for six months in your browser, after which you are asked again. You can change it at any time through the “Website statistics” link at the foot of every page.
Server logs and form protection
Like any web server, the one hosting this site records the requests it receives, with the IP address and the page requested. These logs are kept by the host for technical and security purposes.
To prevent automated submissions, the form briefly retains a hash of your IP address — an irreversible calculation, from which the address itself cannot be recovered. It is erased after fifteen minutes.
Cookies
Apart from the statistics described above, this site sets no cookies. No advertising, no social networks, no tracking.
| What is stored | When | For how long |
|---|---|---|
| Your choice about statistics | When you answer the banner | 6 months |
Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) |
Only if you accept | Up to 13 months |
Your choice is kept in your browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie: it would be perverse to set one in order to remember that you refuse them. If you decline after having accepted, the cookies already set are erased.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict and object to the information held about you. To exercise it, write to us through the contact form or by telephone.
If our answer does not satisfy you, you may refer the matter to the French data protection authority, cnil.fr.
Links to other sites
This site links to Airbnb, Facebook, Google Maps, Waze and the tourist tax portal. Once there, their own rules apply, over which we have no control. The “Book” page also displays a widget supplied by Airbnb, which loads a script from their servers.
